Abstract:
The Assessment of Risk and Manageability of Individuals with Developmental and Intellectual Limitations who Offend (General Version; ARMIDILO-G, Version 7; Boer et al., 2014) and the Sex Offender Version (ARMIDILO-S, web version 1.1, Boer et al., 2013) risk assessment tools and their application have been under a process of development for the last fifteen years. Both tools have demonstrated strong predictive validity for reoffending amongst people with an intellectual disability within Australia and internationally. This presentation provides an update on the tools’ predictive validity, as well as, and arguably as importantly, their ecological validity. The presentation also explores the tools’ evolution over the last decade, including coming amendments. Finally, discussed will be the lessons that can be taken from forensic disability practice, and applied more generally to managing risk of recidivism for those without a disability in the community.
